Walks

Walks on Dunk Island are a wonderful way to get off the beaten track, see some spectacular scenery and enjoy getting closer to nature.

For safety reasons, before you depart on a walk please inform reception staff of your plans, and be sure to carry an adequate amount of drinking water. To lessen the risk of injury it is recommended that you do not attempt any of these walks in thong (flip flop) type footwear but wear shoes that enclose your whole foot. Also be sure to take frequent breaks in the shade so as to avoid heat exhaustion.

Short Walks
For a rewarding but pretty easy option take the trail to Muggy Muggy Beach which will take you through rainforest to a relatively secluded beach. As the distance is only around one kilometre, many guests take some food to enjoy a picnic. Another option is to go see the animals at the Coonangalbah Farm – the kids will love it! History buffs may want to visit the “Beachcomber” E.J. Banfield’s grave, which is located a kilometre or so from the resort.

Moderate Walks
For a walk that should take about two hours there & back, you can take the reasonably level trail to visit Coconut Beach on the other side of Dunk Island – this will also take you past the farm. Or you could follow the somewhat more challenging trail to the top of Mount Kootaloo for some spectacular views of Dunk and other islands. It’s most definitely worth the effort!

Longer Walks
For a longer and more challenging excursion you could opt to do the Island Circuit, which will take you through beautiful rainforest and allow you to experience many of island’s best features including Coconut Beach and the magnificent Palm Valley. This walk is only recommended for those with a good level of fitness and as with the shorter walks it is recommended that you do not wander off the tracks.

Resort staff will be happy to advise you on any of the routes, and you can also take advantage of the guided walks that are available.
